Ford Motor commences EcoSport urban SUV production in Thailand

ABR Staff Writer Published 30 January 2014

American automaker Ford Motor has commenced the production of the all-new Ford EcoSport urban SUV at its Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) plant in Rayong.

Globally, the new plant marks the fourth EcoSport production plant for the company, joining the plants in Chennai, India; Chonqing, China; and Camcari, Brazil.

Models produced at the new plant will be for the domestic as well as export markets across the ASEAN region.

Ford ASEAN president Matt Bradley said that the all-new EcoSport continues their ongoing product-led transformation by providing customers with another vehicle to their Ford showroom across the ASEAN markets.

"Produced at our highly flexible Ford Thailand Manufacturing facility, it is the next proof point in our continued growth strategy in the region," Bradley added.

The vehicle is powered by 1.5L Ti-VCT engine with six-speed Ford PowerShift automatic transmission or five-speed manual transmission.

A high driving position, rugged capability, superior fuel economy and convenient features, including a sunroof, all make the all-new EcoSport an ideal companion for both city streets and mountain roads.

Ford Thailand managing director Yukontorn Wisadkosin said: "Combining small-car practicality with the agility of a SUV, it delivers a segment-leading package of quality, safety, fuel-economy and value."
